Thomas’s Journey Back into Work

Thomas joined the Restart Scheme on 01/04/2025 and met with Adviser Michelle on 07/04/2025. Struggling with job searching and interview skills, Thomas expressed interest in roles in Hospitality, Security, Retail, and Warehousing. Michelle helped him identify transferable skills from his previous work as a night porter and crane operative, and together they explored his career goals.

Thomas attended a Workplace Ethics course to build confidence in workplace behaviour and integrity, and received support with interview practice, CV writing, and “Better Off In Work” calculations to see the financial benefits of returning to employment.

After attending weekly vacancy sessions and applying for multiple roles, Thomas was invited to two interviews. He successfully secured a full-time permanent role with OCS and chose this position to meet both his financial and employment goals. Ahead of starting, he attended a First Days at Work course to help with his transition back into the workplace.

Thomas started his new role on 15/08 and is now thriving, supported by Restart’s in-work advisor. We are proud of Thomas’s commitment and wish him continued success in his new role.
