At Northern Rights, our participants can access computers and receive practical support to build their digital confidence. From creating CVs and searching for vacancies to completing online applications and accessing digital services, we help people develop skills they can use independently.

💜 Team Northern Rights Takes on the Shine Night Walk! 💜
We're incredibly proud of Team Northern Rights for completing the 10km Shine Night Walk in support of Cancer Research UK, raising money for such an important cause.
The evening was filled with determination, teamwork, and reflection as we walked together to support life-saving cancer research and help make a difference for those affected by cancer.
This walk was especially meaningful as we completed it in memory of our friend and colleague, James, whose memory continues to inspire us.
A huge thank you to everyone who donated, supported, and cheered us on along the way. Together, we've helped contribute to a cause that means so much to so many.

🌟 Success Story: Douglas Starts a New Chapter with Glendale! 🌟
We're delighted to celebrate Douglas, who has successfully secured full-time employment as a Gardener/Driver with Glendale in South Shields through the Connect to Work programme. 🎉
When Douglas joined the programme, he was eager to return to work and embraced opportunities to build his skills, increase his independence and move closer to sustainable employment. From the outset, he remained focused on achieving his goal of securing full-time work and was committed to taking positive steps towards making it a reality.
Working closely with his advisers, Douglas updated his CV to showcase his experience, reliability, driving skills and ability to undertake physical outdoor work. He also completed a Better Off in Work calculation to help him understand the financial benefits of employment and make informed decisions about future opportunities.
Throughout his journey, Douglas embraced every opportunity to learn and grow. He developed his digital confidence, strengthened his literacy skills and received tailored support with job searching, applications and online systems. His commitment and willingness to try new things helped him build confidence, increase his independence and move closer to sustainable employment.
Alongside this, Douglas accessed specialist support from Your Voice Counts, helping him improve his financial wellbeing as he prepared for his return to work.
When an opportunity arose with Glendale, Douglas worked hard to prepare for his interview. He practised common interview questions and used the STAR technique to develop clear, confident responses that reflected his experience and strengths.
His preparation, practical skills and positive attitude paid off, and he was offered the role.
Douglas started work on 25 August 2026 as a full-time Gardener/Driver with Glendale, working 40 hours per week. With continued in-work support, including assistance with workwear and regular check-ins, he has successfully settled into his new role. He reports that he is enjoying the variety of his work, including driving, weeding and general gardening duties, and that everything is going well.
